Week 13

What did you do this past week?

This past week was an off week for me, since most of my classes had stuff due the week before, so I didn’t have as much to do this week. Because of this, I was able to take some time and relax before the final stretch of the semester.

What’s in your way?

Coming up, I need to prepare for many finals in basically all of my classes these coming weeks. I have a couple weeks with a lot of work with all of my classes and their tests and projects as the semester comes to a close. I need to be able to finish strong as the semester ends.

What will you do next week?

I plan to set up my repository for the Life early this week so I can get started early on this project. For several of the other projects, I started later than I should have, which came back to bite me. So for this one, I will ensure I have enough time to complete the project to the best of my ability.

What was your experience of allocator? (this question will vary, week to week)

Allocator was interesting, and the idea of one seems very important for classes like vector, which we discussed in class. I felt that the look inside how a class like this works is an important part of understanding C++ and how different parts of it interact within the object-oriented paradigm.

What made you happy this week?

This week, I moved most of my stuff out of my apartment, since I’ve been living at home because of the coronavirus situation. Now that I moved more of my stuff out, I feel like I’m more at home now, which I enjoy. Although this situation is not fun in general, I’m trying to look at the positives, and I know we’ll make it through this.

In addition, I caught up with some of my high school friends through video call, which was nice to be able to talk to them and see how they’re doing. It’s been a while since we got together, and I’m happy to be able to talk with them again.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

Recently I set up my computer so that it could dual boot between Windows and Ubuntu. However, my computer would always default to Ubuntu, but I wanted it to default to Windows. This AskUbuntu forum answer showed me how to do it, and even explained how you could set up your loader so that it booted to whichever was last used, which is what I ended up doing. If you dual-boot your computer and want to set your default OS, this answer is very helpful.
